In a significant update to the PACER Case Locator system on December 8th, 2024, the Court system will require users to include a party's last name for all Social Security Number (SSN) searches on the PACER Case Locator. This change helps prevent identity theft by making it harder to do random SSN searches. We consider this security enhancement an important step towards better privacy and security for the millions of people who have filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Court System.

What is Changing

The PACER Case Locator will now require users to search using a last name and an SSN rather than just the SSN.
